Cold Therapy for Recovery and Everyday Comfort

After a long walk, a workout or a busy day on your feet, cold can feel good on sore muscles and joints. Cold therapy products are designed to apply cold to a specific area, and are intended for temporary relief of discomfort after activity.

Dr. Franklyn's is a Brooklyn, New York family business with more than 25 years of experience in health, wellness, orthopedic support and rehabilitation products. Every product page lists sizes and instructions so you can use cold therapy safely.

Types of Cold Therapy

• Reusable gel pack: a flexible pack that you cool in the freezer

• Cold compression wrap: holds cold against a joint with adjustable straps

• Cold therapy machine: circulates cold water through a pad for longer, steadier cooling

• Hot and cold pack: one pack that can be chilled or warmed

Ice Pack for Injuries

The Reusable Hot & Cold Therapy Gel Pack is a flexible gel pack that can be microwaved or chilled, so one pack works as an ice pack for injuries or a warm pack. Cold packs are intended for temporary relief of discomfort. For a new injury, see a clinician before treating it yourself.

Cold Compression Wrap

A cold compression wrap combines cold with gentle compression and uses straps to hold the pack in place, so you do not need to hold it. The Cold Compression Therapy Wrap is available as part of this range.

Cold Therapy Machine

A cold therapy machine circulates chilled water through a pad, which gives longer, steadier cooling than an ice pack and does not need refreezing. The Hot & Cold Water Therapy System is designed for alternating hot and cold water therapy.

Ice Wrap for Knee

An ice wrap for knee use wraps around the joint and holds cold against it. Our knee braces provide support for the knee during activity.

Cold Therapy Safety

  • Never put ice or a frozen pack directly on bare skin, because a cover protects against cold injury
  • Follow the product instructions on how long to use it, and take breaks between sessions
  • Do not use over broken skin, or on areas with reduced sensation
  • Use with care if you have diabetes, circulation problems or nerve damage
  • Stop and remove the pack if the skin turns very red, white or numb
  • Ask a doctor before using cold therapy after surgery

Getting the Right Fit

Choose a pack or wrap large enough to cover the area. Check the size and strap length on the product page and how you freeze or fill the product.

Cold, Heat and Compression Work Together

Many people use cold after activity and warmth for stiff muscles. See our heating pads and pneumatic compression products, designed to support comfort and recovery. For supports around the joints, browse our ankle and calf supports and knee braces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I use an ice pack for injuries?

Follow the product instructions and your clinician's advice. Always keep a cover between the pack and your skin, take breaks between sessions, and stop if your skin turns very red, white or numb. For a new injury, see a clinician.

Should I use cold or heat?

Cold is intended for temporary relief after activity, while warmth is often used for stiff, tight muscles. If you are not sure which suits you, ask your doctor or physical therapist.

What is a cold therapy machine?

A cold therapy machine circulates chilled water through a pad, giving longer and steadier cooling than an ice pack. You fill it with water and ice and follow the product instructions.

Do you offer wholesale pricing on cold therapy products?

Yes. Medical-supply stores, pharmacies, physical therapists, chiropractors, rehabilitation centers and orthopedic practices can apply for a wholesale or professional account. Pricing is quantity-based and confirmed individually after a business review.
